Richard NEWELL

Richard Newell was born in Weeting in 1893, the son of John & Pollie.

The Thetford and Watton Times of Saturday September 12th 1914 reported that R Newell [of Weeting] was in Kitchener's Army. One week later the paper recorded that R Newell was serving with the Norfolks.

On the 25th August 1917 the Thetford and Watton Times reported thatThe news, which is official, has been received by Mr & Mrs John Newell, Harling Road Cottages, Weeting, that their youngest son, Private Richard Newell, Norfolk Regiment, has been wounded in one foot. The wound is serious, but everything is being done to save the limb. Private Newell is in hospital in England.

So far, we do not know any more about Richard - but hopefully something will turn up during our continuing research.
